AYLI New Traveler Preferences

These questions help AYLI get to know you as a traveler and they are broken into two parts.

Part One: General Travel Style. These questions are about you as a person out in the world, wherever you may be and whenever you may be there. You'll only have to fill out the first section once. Next time we work together, we'll skip straight to Part Two.

Part Two: Your Upcoming Trip. These questions are focused on your most recent AYLI travel design project.

There are no wrong answers and you shouldn't worry about saying something different than someone else you're traveling with! We will also have a chance to refine all this as we move along so, if more than one answer applies, just pick the one that most sounds like how you're feeling today.

Tell me about your favorite vacation.

What makes it memorable? Are there any little things you would have changed?

Do you have a favorite hotel (or other lodging) you've stayed at before?

In general, which of these statements feels most like how you'd describe your preferred travel pace?

I’m on vacation. Slow mornings, easy days, minimal commitments.

I'm good with one planned activity per day as long as the rest stays pretty loose.

I wouldn't mind hitting a few fun experiences each day, but I'm going to want some downtime each afternoon to decompress in whatever way works for me.

I can handle really full days as long as they are interspersed with a slow day now and then.

I'm only going to be here once, so let's do as much as we can and I'll sleep when I get home.

How comfortable are you temporarily splitting up from your travel partners if your interests diverge?

Totally fine. I'm very comfortable out in the world on my own and my travel partners usually are too.

Probably OK, but there would have to be a good reason and it shouldn't be for more than a few hours.

No, if I'm traveling with someone else then spending time with them is a big part of the trip.

This question doesn't apply to me either because I typically travel solo or because I'm not of an age where I'm allowed to venture out on my own much just yet.

Which of these statements best describes your general attitude toward food?

I'll try anything once. Bring on the weird stuff.

I'm pretty adventurous and like most things as long as they're prepared well.

I can usually find at least a couple things on the menu that sound good.

I tend to stick to the basics but can stretch my comfort zone on a special occasion.

I am admittedly picky but I want to get more comfortable trying new things.

I have a pretty limited diet and it does sometimes affect my experience when I travel.

How do you feel about public transportation?

Love it. Use it all the time.

Probably fine with it as long as it's safe.

Would prefer to avoid public transportation and use taxis/ride-shares.

I generally prefer to drive myself, even if parking and traffic are considerations.

When you think about travel in general, which of these things tend to get in the way or create stress?

I get wrapped up in logistics, especially if it's somewhere I've never been before

Research is too time-consuming

I worry about making choices that disappoint other people I'm traveling with

I am a bit of a homebody but people I care about would like to travel more with me
